Shamanic healing restores wholeness to one's being by restoring vital essence or soul parts, and removing impeeding spiritual and energetic influences, in addition to helping the body remember it's own ability to heal.

Shamanism is the oldest known spiritual practice, surviving over 30,000 years due to it's adaptability to the time, place and culture, and it's practical results. The term "shaman",now widely used, origniated in Siberia and means "walker between worlds" or "one who sees in the dark". A shaman essentially mediates between this and the spirit world by becoming a "hollow bone" for the healing power of compassionate spirits. In addition to healing, in earlier times shamans were responsible for a host of practical matters like the survival of the tribe by locating food and water, or interpreting the signs of nature to know if it would be an especially long, cold winter. They were also the storytellers, counselors, priests, and doctors.

Indigenous cultures world-wide are rooted in shamanic traditions, and even industrialized cultures have an history of shamanism, including Europe and the United Kingdom. Each culture has unique ceremonies, rituals, stories and practices that have evolved in relationship to the land, nature, and the cosmos. And, as varied as each shamanic culture may be, anthropologist and those who have worked with shamans in different parts of the world have found that most shamanic cultures share core practices that are universal. Michael Harner, Ph.D. refers to this as "core-shamanism".

Today, shamans continue to be a primary source of healing and assistance in many parts of the world. There is also a vital re-emergence of shamanism in the western world where it is being adapted (as it has through the ages to remain relevant) and integrated into modern culture.

Shamans work to assist in the well-being of the living, and also the well-being of those who are deceased. Psychopomp is a ceremony that is done to help the deceased cross over to a place where they are at peace. This crossing-over ceremony is often called for in clearing the energy in a home, office, plot of land, and places where accidents or disasters have occurred. Shamans are also able to assist when there is a need to help resolve unresolved business between the living and the dead, and help to give peace or healing to suffering ancestors.

From the shamanic perspective common causes of illness and difficulty in one's life are a result of soul loss , power loss, the presence of an intrusion (misplaced or negative energy)or spirit attachment , ancestral and past-life issues.

Some of the issues that people have reported being diminished or resolved include:

  • Physical pain
  • Emotional pain
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Sense something is missing
  • Anger, Fear, Shame, Grief
  • Depression, Anxiety and Stress
  • Self-defeating patterns
  • Relationship difficulties

At once ancient and contemporary, shamanism has much to offer our world at this time as we have created a world out of balance. As we heal, restoring balance and harmony within, we also effect healing and harmony without. Like the Butterfly Effect, where the flapping of a butterfly's wings in Japan can effect the weather in Texas, so can the power of one person effect the whole. As we heal ourselves, we also contribute to healing the Web of Life, that which connects and influences everyone and everything.
